During this Level 1 Avalanche … This course offers the chance to learn the best practices for avalanche safety against a stunning backdrop in Aspen, Colorado. The Level 1 course includes around 8 hours of classroom instructions and 16 hours of active field time. If you plan to start your journey into the backcountry, this course is essential. 1 – 12 people The AIARE Level 1 course is a must for any winter backcountry endeavors. In our three-day (24 hour) course, participants will learn how to recognize hazards and potential dangers while managing and minimizing risk in avalanche terrain.
The course consists of an online learning module, a 2.5 hour evening classroom session at The Rec and 2 days in the field at Estes Park and Rocky Mountain National Park. Instructional sessions are 30% classroom and 70% field work.
