The Nightingale, Kristin Hannah The Nightingale is a historical fiction novel, written by Kristin Hannah and published in 2015. It tells the story of two sisters, just coming of age in France on the eve of World War II, and their struggle to survive and resist the German occupation of France. In 1825, Claire, a 21-year-old Irish convict, chases a British soldier through the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, bent on revenge for a terrible act of violence he committed against her family. She enlists the services of an Aboriginal tracker who is also marked by trauma from his own violence-filled past. The Nightingale heeft net als The Babadook een interessant uitgangspunt maar weet net als in haar debuutfilm de focus op verkeerde plekken te zetten en zo alle potentie te verspelen. Een wraakfilm hoor a la Death Sentence (2007) te zijn: rauw, hard en vooral meedogenloos. Met een goed begin en wat aardige scènes alleen red je het niet.
